What is the first thing that we do as soon as we notice winters approaching? We spend at least a weekend in refreshing our wardrobe by replacing the light and cool summer clothes with the heavy winter ones. That’s pretty much all about our winter prep, isn’t it?
That’s the outer body taken care of. But what about the inside? Maybe our inner body needs a little bit of reconditioning too. According to Ayurveda, the majority of health problems originate from poor digestion and the digestive system has to struggle to cope with changing seasons. And we do not help it either when we don’t prepare ourselves everytime a season change is approaching.
With winters around the corner, here are few things that can help you get your digestive system winter-ready:

1. Carom Seeds (Ajwain Seeds)

Ajwain seedsSoak a tablespoon of carom seeds in a glass of water overnight. Boil it in the mornings and drink on empty stomach. You can add a dash of honey if you don’t like the taste of it. This drink prepares the digestive system for digestion of winter fruits, vegetables helping you derive healthful benefits from them.

2. Basil leaves (Tulsi leaves)

Tulsi leavesBasil leaves are the most effective natural food for boosting your immune system. You can add them to your tea and even coffee or you can boil 6- 8 leaves in a glass of water and enjoy this healthy drink. It will help to protect you against the common cold and viral that spread during the changing weather conditions.

3. Grounded Vegetables

Grounded VegetablesAccording to Ayurveda, all the vegetables that grow under the ground during summers are dense in essential nutrients that are required by the body to beat the chill. Increase the consumption of carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets etc.

 

4. Herbs and Spices

Herbs and SpicesAdding warming spices like cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cayenne, nutmeg, and cloves to your foods is one of the easiest ways to improve digestion during winters.

 

 

5. Regular Exercise

Regular ExerciseRegular exercise has to be the most important part of your everyday routine all year long. Winters can cause more stiffness in the body which can directly impact overall health and fitness. Indulging in any form of exercises like yoga, aerobics or gymming can benefit your overall health and digestive system.
