Chandigarh, September 15:
A one day Workshop on ‘Designing and Developing E-Content’ under the Aegis of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) was organized by Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36-B, here. On the occasion, Shriman Nirmal Singh Dhillon, Secretary Dev Samaj and Chairman of the college released the college magazine ‘Div Dipti’ too.
Electronic content (e-content) which is also known as digital content refers to the content or information delivered over network-based electronic devices or that is made available using a computer network such as internet.
The resource persons of the workshop were Prof Maitreyee Dutta, Head, Computer Science Department, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research(NITTR), Prof. Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, Human Resource Development Council(HRDC),PU & Puneet Moudgil, Project Officer, State Project Directorate(SPD), RUSA.
The experts interacted with the nearly 100 educators who had come from all over the tricity. The Dev Samaj Group of Institutions too were represented well. Educators from Dev Samaj College of Education, Sec 36 -the host college, Dev Samaj College for Women, Sec 45 and Dev Samaj College of Education, Ferozepur attended.
The resource persons explained that E-content is becoming popular because it gives flexibility of time, place and pace of learning. The educators were informed that E-content includes all kinds of content created and delivered through various electronic media & that E-content is available in many subjects and for almost all levels of education.
Dr. (Mrs.) Agnese Dhillon, Principal, Dev Samaj College of Education, Sec 36 said, “The workshop was organized with the objectives to make teachers aware about creating well designed, developed and validated e-content, provide hands on experience in preparing e-content . Last but not the least, the aim was also to empower the society by creating, receiving, sharing and utilizing information for it’s progress.”
It is pertinent to mention here that as textbooks are too expensive, the students are switching from these to digital course materials. These provide both teachers and students a greater interactivity and social collaboration. The E Content can be designed and developed to be used, re-used and distributed across multiple learners.
It is noteworthy that Dev Samaj College , Sec 36 is offering B.Ed., M.Ed., Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counseling, Post Graduate Diploma in Child Guidance and Family Counseling, Basic and Advanced Certificate courses in Yoga Education and Add-on certificate course in Human Rights & Value Education. The college has been at the forefront of developing effective E Content for dissemination of its course material and the Workshop was a step in this direction.
