Punjab & Haryana High Court asks civic bodies to maintain cleanliness during Rose Fest
MC to monitor cleanliness during Rose Fest
The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh is all set for the Rose Festival. The three-day annual festival will begin on February 23 at the Rose Garden, Chandigarh. However, the preparations are in full swing for the festival but the Punjab and Haryana Court has directed the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner to ensure cleanliness. The setting up of stalls becomes chaotic which leads to unnecessary littering.
However, the directions were made on a petition filed against MC and other respondents by RD Anand.
However, the Bench of Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal and Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal have asked the Mayor and the Commissioner to make a committee to supervise the functioning of the Rose Festival. The bench of justice has asked them to particularly ensure that littering is avoided during the fest. Therefore, the bench added that the committee will also have to ensure that no plants were harmed at the Rose Garden.
Moreover, prof Anand revealed his disappointment over the litter and chaos at Rose Garden during the fest last year. He exclaimed that the UT Administration, the MC and other respondent had permitted eatables, ice-creams and other stalls ‘insensitively’ inside the Rose Garden premises, which made it look like a “huge flea market”.
However, the MC will be taking care of all this during the Rose Festival this year. Therefore, the authorities are expected to maintain the cleanliness at the beautiful Rose Garden.
