Mohali is all set to publish its first Gazetteer consisting of facts

The District administration is all set to publish a gazetteer in Mohali. It will keep a record all historic sites, tourist places, famous writers and other prominent personalities from Mohali. According to officials, this is an initiative to build the district as a tourist hub. This will be the district’s first gazetteer. It will carry details about the district and will be nearly 500-pages long, with all geographical and other details about the district. Gazetteers are published once in a decade for separate districts. This will be the first time for Mohali.

DC’s take on the gazetteer

Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, Deputy Commissioner said, “The district is becoming a tourist spot after Burj Fateh came up in Chapparchiri and people are going to visit the Jayanti Majri and Siswan Dam. That is why we felt the need to prepare the gazetteer with fresh information.”

The gazetteer will consist of detailed information about archaeological sites in Mohali and facts about history, culture, and customs here.

Furthermore, Gurpreet Kaur said that the motive to prepare this document is to gather information about the district’s ancient history. This information will be a guiding light for the coming generations. “The state government is working on the theme to make the district a tourist spot. For that, we need to list all the places which are of interest to the tourists who would come from different places,” she said.

The DC also appealed to all the writers, journalists, former officers and citizens to help provide some information about Mohali. This will help them register the information effectively. Certain facts are also clarified in courts with the help of the gazetteer.

Where to give the information?

However, she said that information can be given at her office or people can email it to her office at [email protected]. She exclaimed, “District gazetteer is an important official document of the revenue department. The gazetteer’s organization of financial commissioners secretariats prepare it under the Central Government’s Revision of District Gazetteers Scheme.”

The district has seen major geographical changes since a while. The SAD-BJP government had taken the initiative to make the district a hub for tourists. The gazetteer will consist of complete geographical location details, outline along with detailed information about the social, orchestrated, political and administrative changes in the district. Hence, this is a source of information for intellectuals, biologists, administrators and research students.
